Michael Giacchino - Cloverfield

| ROAR!!!! The Ultimate Monster Movie Theme |

For a movie that had no soundtrack, other than the sounds of explosions, panting and chaotic New York background noise, this is a great end titles composition. It had no themes to draw on from the movie and thus had to stand on its own. It celebrates everything that we have all come to love about rampaging monster movies of ages past...an all around good piece of movie music.

Toto - Dune

I own the original released album of Dune. On that album you can find the track Prophecy Theme. A masterpiece by Brian Eno. Also the opening prologue by Princess Irulan is not on this version. As is Baron Harkonnen's harangue against Duke Leto Atreides.
This remastered version has on the other hand very nice never before released material. Such as The Fremen, Secrets Of The Fremen and The Sleeper Is Awakened!
In my opinion Toto made a very awesome score of this underrated David Lynch's version of Frank Herbert's novel.
My rating will be Excellent. If Prophecy Theme was on it then it would be perfect :)
So explore this album and request every song at least once. You will enjoy it!

I think this soundtrack is a very good representation of Klaus Badelt's work, besides Pirates of the Caribbean. Songs such as Claustrophobia and Drowning are very dramatic and intense while the songs Escape and The Poseidon are very bold and inspirational. The soundtrack even features Fergie! Who can beat that?

Jon Ehrlich & Jason Derlatka - Invasion (TV Series)

On 2006, despite critical acclaim and a strong fan base, ABC abruptly canceled the alien/evolution show "Invasion" after only one season.
On 2008, Jon Ehrlich & Jason Derlatka, the show composer, released the soundtrack of the show.
Our music is really amazing. Dramatic and haunting melodies and very thematical music. Invasion's music is one or maybe the best soundtrack for a television show.
Good music! Good show!

This album is a compilation of previously unreleased film music. A perfect way to discover Amar's musical world through different compositions!
Tracks 1 to 7: La Faute à Fidel
Tracks 8 to 12: Inanna
Tracks 13 to 16: Comme ton Père
Tracks 17 to 19: Mon Colonel
Track 20: Cartouches Gauloises
I'd say this is a must-have for all Amar fans!

Atli Orvarsson - Babylon A.D.

| Wonderfully intense soundtrack to a sci-fi future movie |

While the movie was only slightly interesting, the music did an excellent job of capturing the emotion of the story and its characters. It captured the intense moments and the tender times as the main characters journeyed from a sheltered life to an unknown future.
Atli Örvarsson does an excellent job of orchestration with a good mix between the soft female vocals and piano found in Aurora's Theme and repeated in tracks 3, 7, 14, briefly in 22 and fully in track 23; and the harsher more intense feelings found in the Babylon Requiem which is characterized by harsh male vocals and full choral and is repeated in variation in tracks 5, 6, 10, and 13. Tracks 8,9, 13 16, 17, and 21 are the more upbeat and intense tracks, usually associated with the group on the run or being chased. The rest is more quiet slow orchestration associated with Aurora and her non-violent nature.
Overall a great soundtrack. It is beautiful in its intensity and emotive in its use of themes and choral vocals.

When it comes to filmscore, it's important to look back and find the basis for what we experience in the present. This score is a perfect example of a vision that would not only capture the film it was commissioned for, but begin a whole new approach in scoring. That is what The Planet of Apes was and IS - a spectacular score, transporting you into a world that not only could have been, but when you experience it, will make you think it can BE!! Jerry Goldsmith is at the top of his game, painting not a film but an entire world and its perception!! I am ape for it!!

If the best criterion for judging the worth of a film score is how well it reflects and supports the narrative of the film, without ever upstaging it, then To Kill A Mockingbird is hands-down one of the masterpieces of film music. I defy any film music fan or scholar to name a film score that deserves a higher ranking, based upon that criterion. There are certainly film scores that can equal it -- a small number, to be sure -- but none that can exceed it.
Elmer Bernstein's score is the tale of Harper Lee's novel recast in the form of music. It is the perfect musical realization of that story, married to a perfect film adaptation of the novel.
The entire film reflects the same quality of excellence as the score. There isn't a weak element in it, from acting to directing to cinematography to editing. Even the opening title sequences is an extraordinary work of art, in itself.
There are few films that can be enjoyed again and again, viewing after viewing. This is definitely one of them.
I would argue that there are even fewer film scores that can stand up to repeated hearings, especially when heard apart from the film. This is definitely one of those few.

Justin R. Durban - Skyward

I must admit before I became a member here I had never heard from Justin R. Durban.
Actually the first 'meeting' of his music was one of the SST station ID, Fort Of Flight.
I can not explain why, but it captured me. I was wondering who made that nice cue. Later I found out it was on this album and after listening / requesting from this album, it was definitely one of my new found favorites.
I give it the full five stars.

Christophe Beck - Charlie Bartlett

| A fun jazzy soundtrack to a fun movie |

The film Charlie Bartlett is a great look at issues that a teenage boy must face, mainly that of being popular in high school. Charlie wants to be popular and uses his ability to listen to help his schoolmates. This is a great soundtrack with fun jazzy piano pieces that come to dominate Charlie's character and the more rock styled songs associated with his school and the people there.
Charlie uses the piano as a way to express himself and these jazzy piano tunes can be found on tracks 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 23 - with number 9 the most fun of the tracks. The pieces associated with his school are more rock styled and guitar dominated with track 6 being the only upbeat track and the rest mellow, but emotive tunes expressing the feelings of the students, or principal, of the school.
All in all a great fun soundtrack, though short. A must for any who like jazz piano. A fun must see movie as well.
