Good start. Captivating middle. Lack luster finish. That said, cast performance very entertaining and professional. Ending was a bit of a flop due to writers lack of imagination in my lame/unprofessional opinion.

As a huge admirer of Newmans work this soundtrack to me is almost like the end of an era, because Newmans sound changed over time and is not as easily recognizable as it was in the late 90s and early 2000s. But here in this 2009 soundtrack we hear him in all it's glory. Since this movie belongs to my top 3 favorite movies of all time, of course I praize the score as well. But the truth is - it just fits it perfectely. Newman has this unmatched super power to fit those emotions, thoughts of the protagonists, the feeling of a certain time or century. WInslet and DiCaprio show an absolute outstanding performance in this movie and it wouldn't be as chilling without the score. Great score to hear from first to last track (most Newman Scores don't really allow for that). If I had to put the score into a catchy phrase: It's a bittersweet symphony.

Leith Stevens, John Barry, Alex North (...) - Fantastic Journey

One of the best soundtracks ever for one of the worst films ever |

Sadly, Disney's "The Black Hole" was one of the most embarrassing movies in SF history - but John Barry's soundtrack is a true masterpiece, nevertheless.
Barry's music creates an ominous atmosphere that will give you goose bumps even today - more than 40 years after this piece of music has been written.
But thanks to the film's inglorious performance at the box office and partly involuntarily ridiculous script, Barry's masterpiece is almost forgotten, nowadays.
By requesting it frequently on this channel, I hope to make it more accessible and popular with the younger generation so that Barry's composition will "live on"... <3

From my childhood, this soundtrack has always held a special place. The movie is memorable, but the music is timeless. Bruce Broughton opens with the track "My Name Is Chance" which is essentially an overture for the movie. His uses a wide variety of instrumentation to accurately stir different emotions and feelings throughout the movie, from danger and helplessness, to awe, wonder, and adventure. The song "Just Over That Next Hill - Homeward Bound" will never ever get old and always inspire hope/inspiration/optimism for me. Finally nothing can emotionally bring tears quite like the song "Reunited" after you know the struggles of the main charters in the movie. This final piece of music wraps the ending up with a wonderful melody and brings the themes home. An absolute favorite, and a score that everyone should listen to!

The music for The Ribbon is very enchanting and sad at the same time. It reminds me a lot of the introduction in Pixar's UP. Neither The Ribbon or the opening for UP have dialogues and both would loose their impact without such dedicated scores. 5 stars!
