Some news!
Joe Hisaishi has been awarded the 2011 Japan Academy Prize for his music to the movie Akunin (Villain).
He also adapted Vivaldi's La Follia for the latest Ghibli short, only airing in the Ghibli museum: Pan Dane to Tamago Hime (Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess)
Did you know Hisaishi composed video game music in the past? His contributions were not memorable, but this could change with Ni no Kuni: The Another World, a best seller video game in Japan!
Click the pictures to access the Amazon Sample pages.
Last but not least, Joe Hisaishi will give his first concert in Europe during the 4th Film Music Festival in Kraków the 19th of May. But this you all knew already |

Joe Hisaishi 3.11 Charity Concert ~The Best of Cinema Music~. Composer Joe Hisaishi will hold concerts in Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, and Beijing this June and July to benefit the reconstruction efforts after the Japan Earthquake disaster.
The program will combine famous scenes with Hisaishi's music for Ghibli's films such as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, and Ponyo, as well as his music for Kitano's films such as Brother, Hana-Bi, and Kikujiro. Other films represented will include the Oscar-winning Departures (Okuribito) and Villain (Akunin).
Hisaishi had originally planned this program for a concert at the Krakow Film Music Festival in Poland on May 19.
All proceeds will go towards musical instruments for children in the disaster areas.
June 09 (Thursday) : Tokyo, International Forum
June 18 (Saturday) : Osaka, Castle Hall
June 23 (Thursday) : Paris, Zenith Hall
July 09 (Saturday) : Beijing, National Stadium
Paris concert will be Hisaishi's first concert in France and second in Europe after Krakow!

For my birthday last week, I got a recorder and I taste it by playing happy birthday on the piano in the Hisaishi style, including 4 themes by him.
I want to share this first record with you (if this link work), and please be indulgent, it was improvisation.

Very nice Platy. sounds like a "summer" and the mix of famous hits. I would like to be able to play that way.. _________________ Human beings are divided into mind and body. The mind embraces all the nobler aspirations, like poetry and philosophy, but the body has all the fun - Woody Allen |

Is there any chance that we can get the Ip Man CD's? (Ip Man and Ip Man 2) from Kawaii?
I understand that they are very, very difficult to find, but if anyone can give a hand to get these great soundtracks, please let us know! _________________ 03 Feb 10 - 18:21:14 > taryn: LD Yes mooooood music Cool |

Wrong thread, I'm afraid ld
I do have some "Japanese connections" but couldn't find the soundtracks. They're apparently out of print for some time now! _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner |

BTW: As FMF webpage reports, Joe Hisaishi released a CD with recording of his Tokyo concert this year (that concert was a part of his tournee including Kraków and Paris).
On the cover of the album there is a picture from Kraków concert

I have just found a news on FMF (Festiwal Muzyki Filmowej w Krakowie) website that Wonderland Records label released Joe Hisaishi's new album named "Vermeer & Escher".
Album cover may look a little bit familiar to score fans:
Album has been released on Feb 15th 2012. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,
