I have mixed feelings about this guy. If anybody doesnt know who this is, he wrote the music for some certain japanesse anime films such as "spirited away" and "Princess mononoke".

I really respect him and like his music....some of the time....I dont know, its hard to explain.

But anyways, just wondering if anyone had a thought or 2 about him Smile

This is my first post to the forum.
Thanks for the opportunity.

I, myself, enjoy Joe's music very
much. He's very dramatic and sens-
itive. I love the way he uses the
percussion section and while I can
understand that the genre does not
appeal to everyone, a view of the
films and the images etc. contained;
will reveal an almost childlike
innocence to which his music is
the adhesive.

His work, over the years, has also
evolved, becoming more of what it
is already - round and yet delicate.

Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away
are my favorites.

He is one of my very favorites and
certainly, most recently.

I like Hisaishi also, but there is distinctive quality to much of his work that is hard to describe, and is why I at any rate haven't yet bought one of his soundtracks. For want of a better word I'd call the quality an 'emptiness'. Not in a bad sense, it just seems that's the constant context for his music. So when there is a beautiful melody you often feel like you're in a warm nice room but outside the door it's cold and barren.

I haven't heard enough to say more at this point--I'm working my way through Nauusicaa, I loved that movie and the music in it at the time, and am still very impressed with some of JH's themes for it.

I've heard his scores to Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, and they were awesome. He's written several scores for director Hayao Miyazaki, which I hope I'll get to hear sometime in the future.
