About time but not too late. If it were sooner we would have never even had MP3 streams. Yay for RealPlayer too. I downloaded the latest version and it is actually pretty nice compared to the junk it used to be.

Pity to see that ogg goes. Its by far the best codec and sounds incredible. I will try out aacPlus. Although its not a free format, is it?

It is not open source but it will not cost you any money.

I know that it does not cost *me* money Smile But I am always for supporting a free and open format rather than some industry "standard" pushed forward by some company. Now, from listening to aacPlus the whole morning it does sound a little dull and heights are not as clear as with ogg 128k. But this could also be a placebo effect Smile

I miss the ogg stream too. Oh well, just like 8-tracks, VCRs and CDs, time marches on. The aac stream isn't bad though except I haven't found a nice and compact console based player for it. Sad

I use mplayer under Linux just fine, SYS64738. Is that an option for you?

I have tried mplayer on the server but it won't seem to play. I haven't had a lot of time to tinker with it and find out why and I likely won't bother trying to either. Everything is ssh to the server. There is no monitor or keyboard connected. I also don't have any graphical remote login of any kind on it. But it sits atop of the shelves and I could leave it run in the background while I worked without problems so it was a convenience.

I am not stuck. Lots of other machines around to play the aac stream on.
