Desplat had a strong 2008 with three great releases (Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Largo Winch and Afterwards) and starts off 2009 quickly with two more releases!

With Chris Weitz as the director for the next movie in the Twilight series, New Moon, it appears that Alexandre Desplat (collaborated on The Golden Compass) will replace Carter Burwell as the composer for the sequel. The news was posted on Carter Burwell's site recently and he mentioned that he is unsure if any of the themes in the first movie, like Bella's Lullaby, will be used in the sequel.
While I am not really a fan of the series, I think it provides a good background for Desplat to create a very interesting score. _________________ "My Logic is Undeniable" - I, Robot

Thanks for the updates Nate. I've been an admirer of Desplat's work, if not a full-fledged fan, since his wonderful score for Birth. I think he is terribly underrated, not garnering the respect he deserves from the Academy (or even the SST community!). I suppose he'll continue to crank out wonderful music, and with hope he will receive proper recognition one day.

For all the french in here, Alexandre Desplat was invited on Radio Classique, the emission "passion classique" this thursday.
You can hear it speaking (in french, of course) about his career, his last music for the Audiard film "Un prophete", and how he works, during 1h30.
You can hear this interview here, but you have to register (for free) before. _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution

For those who don't want to follow NanM's link, the short answer is "Yes". Of course this is from something published on the internet, so that doesn't make it true.
