There is a lot of uproar at the moment, since the nomination of the song "Alone yet not alone" written by Bruce Broughton and Dennis Siegel was withdrawn from competition on dubious grounds.
For people who like to express their opinion about this matter here's the link to the official petition to reinstate the nomination.

This pretty much sums up the issue that is ongoing:
From the "Hollywood Reporter":
After its nomination, several songwriters affiliated with other films expressed dissatisfaction with the selection, and a PR firm representing a song not nominated hired a private investigator to research whether Alone Yet Not Alone should be disqualified for not meeting advertising requirements, but the Academy wasn't convinced on those grounds.
The email sent by Broughton, though, convinced the Academy to make the highly unusual move to rescind the nomination.
Broughton's email read in part: "I'm dropping you a line to boldly direct your attention to entry #57," a reference to the track number on a CD containing songs up for nomination consideration. "I'm sending this note only because it is extremely unlikely that this small, independent, faith-based film will be seen by any music branch member; it's the only way I can think of to have anyone be aware of the song." _________________

It's getting more and more dubios, now the NY Times are mentioning this affair in the same context as the scandal around Woody Allen. What a dick move by them... _________________ If our music survives, which I have no doubt it will,
