(we'll see if this flies or not )
i was going to out this in the joke thread, but this is more geared toward thinking rather than laughs .
Feel free to post riddles or other thinking puzzles here. However, please put the answer in a spoiler, so as not to ruin others' guessing...
I'll start with an example (should be pretty easy):
What breaks but never falls? What falls but never breaks?
Anyone? (come on... )
ANSWER:Spoiler: daybreak & nightfall |

What English word is nine letters long, and can remain an English word at each step as you remove one letter at a time, right down to a single letter. List the letter you remove each time and the words that result at each step.
Spoiler: The word is "startling." Remove the "l" and it becomes starting. Then remove the "t" and it is staring. The rest of the changes are as follows: string - sting - sing - sin - in - and finally, I. |
Are you good at math? Complete the last two in this sequence: 1=3, 2=3, 3=5, 4=4, 5=4, 6=3, 7=5, 8=5, 9=4, 10=3, 11=?, 12=?
Spoiler: The solution for both is 6, because that is the number of letters in the name of the numbers.

I'm enjoying this thread! Ok, see if you like his one:
Four men were in a boat on the lake. The boat turns over, and all four men sink to the bottom of the lake, yet not a single man got wet! Why?
Spoiler: They were all married men, not single men! |

Why is the firetruck red?
Spoiler:
Because it has two seats in the front and four seats in the back. Two and four is six.
When it's six o'clock in New York it's 1 o'clock in England.
The queen of England is named Elizabeth, which is also the name of a boat.
The boat sailed out to sea and sank down to the fishes.
The fishes have fins, and the Finns fought the Russians in the war.
The Russians are red, which is why the firetruck is also red.

Here are a few making the rounds in email again:
Five tricky questions
1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms.
The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with
loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years.
Which room is safest for him?
Spoiler: The one with they lions. If they haven't eaten in 3 years they're likely dead. |
2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5
minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out
together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?
Spoiler: The woman is a photographer. |
3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and grey when you
throw it away ?
4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday,
Friday, or Sunday?
Spoiler: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. |
5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can
find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that
you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with
it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still
may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out.

What is once in a minute, twice in a moment, and never in a thousand years?
Spoiler: Well... the answer is M, I'm sure you got that but I wrote a much longer answer and then added a spoiler in an attempt to throw you off the trail and think there was a much larger and more complicated answer. But, alas, no. Not that clever a riddle! |

This works... Just did it for sure!!!
YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT
Don't tell me your age;
you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but your waiter may know!
YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH
This is pretty neat
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read .
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out !
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat.
(more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
3. Add 5
4. Multiply it by 50
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add
1758... If you haven't had your birthday yet add 1757.
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number
The first digit of this was your original number, i. e.,
(How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2008) _________________ A good sound track will let me relive the movie, I can cry over them as well. Hand me the tissues...please. |
