As a pridelander, it's my duty to request this album...!
Actually this is not a soundtrack, and all of the tracks are vocal songs. But we already have a lot of non-soundtracks here (e.g. E.S. Posthumus), and I think some songs on this album are more like score than many pop songs that are already in SST...
Anyway, they are great songs, some of them were used in the Broadway version. I think a lot of listeners will enjoy this album.
Rhythm Of The Pride Lands: Music Inspired by The Lion King
Track Titles (performer) - composer(s):
1. He Lives In You (Lebo M) - Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and Lebo M
2. Hakuna Matata (Jimmy Cliff featuring Lebo M) - Elton John
3. The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Lebo M) - George David Weiss, Hugo Peretti, and Luigi Creatore
4. Kube (Lebo M) - Caiphus Semenya and Lebo M
5. Lea Halalela (Khululiwe Sithole) - Lebo M and Hans Zimmer
6. It's Time (Lebo M) - Lebo M, John Van Tongeren, and Jay Rifkin
7. One By One (Lebo M) - Lebo M
8. Warthog Rhapsody (Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella) - Elton John
9. Lala (Lebo M) - Lebo M, Hans Zimmer, and Jay Rifkin
10. Busa (Lebo M) - Lebo M, Hans Zimmer, and Jay Rifkin
11. Noyana (Lebo M) - Traditional African Folk Song
This album is now out of print, but still available on Amazon marketplace at very low price, and also on iTunes Store.
Links: Amazon#1, Amazon#2, iTunes Store, Hans-Zimmer.com (clips & details)
Here's my description:
Three great songs, Lea Halalela, Lala, and Busa are based on Hans Zimmer's themes from the movie, and all feature African vocals and choir as in the score. My favorite is Lea Halalela, which is based on Father's Theme (aka This Land). Unfortunately I couldn't find any audio clips include the best part...
SST already has Lea Halalela and Busa on Zimmer's concert album (The Wings Of A Film), but those live recordings are very very weak compared to the original!!
Also He Lives In You was used in the sequel (The Lion King II: Simba's Pride), but it's an edited version. The Lion Sleeps Tonight on the sequel OST is identical to the 3rd track.
Timon & Pumbaa's Warthog Rhapsody is an unused song, replaced by Hakuna Matata in the movie. Kube and It's Time are rather pop music, but One by One and Noyana have more traditional style of African songs.
And about Jimmy Cliff's Hakuna Matata... just watch this _________________ Miya the Pridelander

Hmmmmm..... This is a tough one. The songs on the album are vocals..... but they're mostly good songs.... hmmmmmm.... argh. I'll have to think about this one. Are you going to send it in if JERIC approves or wait for him to get it?
I think I'll vote yes. The songs are good and nice to listen to. _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

At first I was thinking about donation, but it costs more at Amazon.co.jp (or other stores in Japan) than Amazon.com (from 2$ or so)...
And if I'd donate something, it would be a Japanese soundtrack. There are some soundtracks I want to send. But not right now... someday when I find them at low price (and when I have a heavy purse ), I'll buy and send them. _________________ Miya the Pridelander

For me, it's not a questions of vocals, it's a question of if the songs were in the movie. We don't usually do the "inspired by" thing. I voted no.

I thought it's acceptable because there are some albums which are not related to any movies ("Inspired By Middle-Earth", for example). But I also understand it's not the most appropriate type of album for SST.
Then another question... if I can get another copy in the future, can I send it in? I can't say when, but sometimes I find out-of-print albums at low price at used CD stores. _________________ Miya the Pridelander

You can always send it in, but be prepared to make a donation to
JERICs personal collection if he doesn't include it in the playlist.
I can't speak for JERIC, but it's not looking like this will be
included at this point.

By the way pridelander. You can order the soundtrack from Amazon.com and have them send it to SST for you. You don't have to purchase it in Japan. Also, if you use ebay, you can have the seller send it to SST. That's what I did for the "Best of Godzilla 1985-1994" album I sent in. _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

I don't mind the vocals and I haven't heard this CD for a long time. So, I voted for "yes". |
