Mon Jul 09, 2007 9:01 am Post subject: New Features: Birthday Block/Module & Anonymous Chat |
|
Chandler has created a new block and module called "Birthdays".
The block is located in between the Chat and User Info. It will display the current day birthdays of SST members and whatever Theme Days, Holidays or Composers we decide to enter. We're still working on adding a bit more data to it and we'll be adding a link to the module inside of the block soon. Be sure to add your birthday to your profile by going to the drop-down menu > Community > Your Account > Your Info.
The module is located here:
http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com/modules.php?name=Birthdays
We're not sure if we'll add it to the menu but you'll definitely be able to get to using the link in the block which is coming soon.
I have made it so the chat is now visible to Anonymous users but they are unable to chat until they log in. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Wow! Something new again! You are awesome guys! \o/
Thank you Chandler! New block is looking very promising.
BTW: I know it's early days and work is still going on, but let me ask one question just out of curiosity.
I see that in "Member Birthdays" part all members' names are clickable. At the moment all the links are taking me to my (molossus) SST Personal Page.
Do I understand it right that the goal is to make this names work like the names from "Online Now" box under the chat window? (Click it and you will see "user's SST Personal Information" page) Or will it be changed and names in Birthdays Block won't be clickable?
I think keeping them clickable with a link to SST personal information page would be good. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I think I already got the answer
Thanks!
Edit:
But here is another question:

Is there any suggested method (way) of sending in requests (ideas) for some holidays, composers, anniversaries etc. to be entered into this new module?

BTW: I see the nice link in the block is already working and I think it's quite enough. I don't think the menu addition is necessary (if you want to know my opinion). _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Not right now. We still need to add a bunch of birthdays and events obviously. Once we're done we'll be open to ideas and will probably create another Announcement in the Ideas forum just like the Theme Days one. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Thanks for the feedback so far! Nate gets props for adding 99 composers to the list. He's working on putting in more holidays for us too.
I hope you all enjoy! _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Awesome teamwork!
And now, I know I share my birthday with a great composer _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner |

Love the new block/module!
It was definitely interesting researching all of the composer's birthdays and in some instances a bit of a challenge . I wasn't able to find birthdays (Month, Date, Year) for a few prominent composers including:
Brian Tyler
Michael Giacchino
Klaus Badelt
Feel free to send me a PM if you know the above mentioned birthdays, Thanks.

Great LadyInque! I do not share my birthday with such a prestigious composer, but on the other hand I really like Umebayashi works! _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner |

Today (the day of the John Williams Concert) the Events block shows this text:
Quote: |
John Williams Concert - Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood, CA
No Events or Birthdays Today |
Seems to me there is an event so the 'No Events or Birthdays Today' should not appear. _________________ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Flying: The knack of throwing yourself at the ground and miss.

Looks good. Shame it was introduced one day after my birthday. Oh well, 51 weeks to go to see my name there |
