|
Continuing on the same topic, here is an interesting website at IndependentCritics.com that lists their 100 best movie posters.
Here are my favourites from their list:
1. Jaws
2. Straw Dogs
3. 2001
4. A.I.
5. Manhattan
I can't believe they don't have Close Encounters or Blade Runner.
What are your favs and the most glaring omissions?
Also...Premiere Magazine also has their list of the Top 25 best movie posters. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |

What a great site that is, Snow. Thanks! (And yours, too, Jorel.)
I love how colorful and large the posters are. Some of them are pretty obscure except for avid movie buffs but that makes it even more fun! I learned a lot
I emailed him about three:
1) Once Upon A Time In America (although the poster is marred by 2 little inserts that aren't on the album cover).
2) Ben-Hur (1959) - It set a standard for that genre.
3) Tales From The Earthsea/Gedo Senki - very obscure but awesome nonetheless! |

I have always been struck by this poster from The Last of the Mohicans. Maybe just because it's one of my favorite movies!

Update 6 hours later...
I just received a very nice email from TC Candler (IndependentCritics.com) thanking me for the movie poster tips, and saying he "will definitely add your choices to the shortlist for possible inclusion." I certainly wasn't expecting that, but it was nice to hear.
btw - I did mention I saw the link to his site on StreamingSoundtracks.com.
Here is a composite of the 3 posters. The picture on the lower right is a photo I took in NYC with Chandler and Sensei posing for our own "Once Upon A Time In America" poster.

Hey Twopop,
great posters, and great to hear that it will be added. (And, btw: your personal "Once upon"-poster is great fun!!!)
I emailed him my choices, too, and I also received and answer from TC Chandler, writing:

Of those, I really like the Lady in the Water poster with the wet footsteps. I will probably add that to the list of possible entries.
Thanks for writing...

Derler, glad to hear you got a positive response as well. It's great when webmasters follow-up so fast.
"Lady in the Water" is a fabulous poster. I would think he'd add it for sure because so many people love it.
I'm not holding my breath on mine. If any at all make it, probably "Ben-Hur" has the best chance since it really was a milestone for all the epic posters that followed.
Here's another:

Twopop, yes that's great! Well, he's almost as good and fast as you are...
I really love this "Lady"-poster - those golden footsteps!!
But you are right, your "Ben Hur" was a milestone. It was quoted so many times. I also remember the following, btw maybe a CD we should add on SST :

Nice work, Two. I like that photo. For a long time I thought that background was a special effect; a composite photo to make the backdrop look more dramatic. I should've gone there when I had the chance.
I also emailed TC and got a reply. He's probably sick of hearing from SSTers LOL. He said he'd consider my selections:
All three are hanging on a wall in my home. I think Blade Runner in particular is stunning. A wonderful, noirish sci-fi poster. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |
