|
I'd like to suggest that the "Now Playing" panel, or at least the section of it with the queue length, be made to reload whenever the main queue/chat window reloads.
Here's the scenario I've noticed:
1. A long track starts. (8-12 minutes). The queue length drops to 1:51 or something reasonable like that.
2. During the time that track is playing, users see the short queue length, and make requests. This happens for 10 minutes or so, while that long track plays.
3. When the track is done, and that part of the frame refreshes, queue length goes from 1:51 to 2:25, because multiple users made requests while the queue was "short." This can be made worse if any of these requests are also long tracks.
Anyway, the main queue window refreshes every 'x' seconds, but the 'now playing' panel only refreshes when the track changes (timer runs down). If the current queue stats were also reloaded every 'x' seconds, regardless of the status of the 'now playing' panel, then the queue length would be more current and it could help keep queue lengths down.
That's my idea, based on observations of the queue lately. Do with it what you will, and thanks for the site.

One could say here that easy solutions are also:
- don't request at all
- don't visit SST.com
And I think that easy solution is not always good enough (satisfactory) solution.

What molossus said. Sarcasm probably isn't the best way to answer a serious and (hopefully) well thought-out suggestion.
Also, I never said I was the one requesting long tracks. Just that it's a way for you to possibly help control your queue length without instituting new limits on requests. Basically, I'm thinking that better informing your users as to the current length might help. |
