It is Dave Grusin's birthday on June 26!!!
(Thanks to maddog for the heads up).
I do not own one CD by Grusin so he is a bit of an unkown quantity to me. There are some compilations released of his music, but none seem comprehensive, so I have listed his major works here.
There is a fan website dedicate to Dave Grusin here .

1967 The Graduate
1968 The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter
1969 Candy
1969 Winning

1979 The Champ
1979 The Electric Horseman

1981 On Golden Pond
1981 Reds
1982 Dave Grusin and the N.Y./ L.A .Dream Band
1982 Out of the Shadows
1982 Tootsie
1983 Night-Lines
1985 The Goonies
1989 Migration
1989 The Fabulous Baker Boys
1990 Havana
1991 The Bonfire Of The Vanities
1993 The Firm

1996 Mulholland Falls
1997 Presents West Side Story

Hope you will join me in wishing Dave Grusin a happy birthday.
Please share your thoughts on his work. Your Favourite albums and cues. I for one am keen to learn more about this composer. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb

Grusin was born in LIttleton, Colorado....not too far from where I currently live. I really like Grusin's style and enjoy several of his scores. I do not have much from him either but what I do have is nice and I like what I have heard on SST. We still need an official release of Grusin's best know score though, come on GOONIES!!! |

Prohibitive re-use fees (the score was recorded in Los Angeles) are holding back a release on that one. Warner Bros is known for having little interest in unearthing old scores that for them, would mean a very limited market, thus a very small profit.
An external company can do it (I know we tried), but this just means shelling out MAJOR bucks, plus the fact that this is not a mere license, it would mean having to pay for the whole thing (license, re-use, production), plus a costly remix/remaster since the original masters are known to be in very fragile condition. The only logical way to get this would be a complete re-recording.
The only two surviving cues (one in the original soundtrack from Epic, the other in the Grusin self-financed Cinemagic) are re-recordings.
Maybe... one day. _________________ Do NOT click this link!

Wow, I think Grusin has a lot of stuff that is really good other than Goonies. I still do not have many of his CD's but I have enjoyed what I have heard here at SST of Random Hearts, The Firm and Havana. Plus I just recently picked up the release from FSM of the Yakuza which has some nice music in it too. I do not like the whole album, and it suprised me there was not some more asian influenced music but overall a lot of enjoyable music. I look forward to hearing more of his work in the future! _________________ "My Logic is Undeniable" - I, Robot |
