Alright so this is an admitted play on TreeBob and Alchemist's Hisaishi Fan Club, obviously.
I've been squealing "JNHFC!" for a while over the chat so I thought I might as well make it official.
And so as not to start a Fan Club war (although it might be amusing), well here's a place to discuss James Newton Howard, one of the more underrated composers for films. The man is extremely prolific, and when he's good, he is good!
OK everyone go nuts.
I'm thinking we need a shed in someone's backyard to be a clubhouse. |

James Newton Howard Ruleth! All his M. Night scores are frickin awesome.....Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and my favorite so far, The Village. I cannot wait to hear his score for Lady in Water.
Dinosaur.....Awesome
and the one I am addicted to recently
King Kong.....simply awesome, and even more so given the time constraint.
Go JNHFC! |

Hmm, I wouldn't say he's underrated, but he definitely rocks! Kinda cute, too _________________ Do NOT click this link!

Oooooooo, Lieserl! *raises hand, jumps up and down*
Thank you! Count me in as a card-carryin' member of the JNH Fan Club, too.
Let's get this show on the road. There's no official JNH site, but there are a number of fan sites.
Here's one of the best: James Newton Howard.com. |

Yess!! Someone else thinks so, too! lol i've had my friends ask me what he looks like (cause i ramble on about how awesome he is to just about everyone) and I tell them, "Kinda cute, for an old guy."
Ooh! the Shyalaman (Shyamalan?) scores are definitely his best work, in my little opinion. And let's not forget Snow Falling on Cedars!! Atlantis is lovely, too.
Lady in the Water! Love it! Can NOT wait! |

Good call Lieserl, thanks for starting this. James Newton Howard first caught my attention with The Sixth Sense and then Unbreakable. But, like so often happens when I enjoy a soundtrack, when I start looking into what else the composer has done I realize that I was already a fan and didn't know it. I loved the Grand Canyon ST since I saw it in film class at college a while back (way back), and never realized whose work it was. The Fugitive doesn't get enough credit either. When I began adding up all his work, and seeing how many of the STs that I enjoy are attributed to him, I decided that he was one of my favorites. The King Kong score was amazing too, it made the movie for me, and of course, Batman Begins.
You can find a bio, history and pics of Howard here..

So, long story short (too late!!) I'm in.
Peace. |

He certainly isn't a bad composer, though since I've only one soundtrack of his to base it on (Dinosaur) I guess I might need some more samples. At least in that soundtrack he made a good use of brass and string instruments. |

I think I'll join most of the composer fan clubs. I listened to the Fugitive score a lot when it first came out, then started to appreciate the guy's versatility - from traditional orchestral action music to subtle choral stuff to electronic sounds with guitar to Herrmann-like suspense. I really like Unbreakable, Village, and Signs. Didn't like Kong Kong at first, but after repeated listens, I was impressed by the Beautiful theme and the later iterations. |

I listened to the extracts on Soundtrack.net and... god, it looks awesome !
Unfortunately, they say that a long Suite frome the movie was recorded but not used on the CD... Very sad...
And there's songs too... I'm sure Shyamalan used them with intelligence and careness, but I'm a bit scared... |

I'm not a JNH specialist but I really like the Dinosaur & Signs soundtracks! Oh and Peter Pan (but I don't have this soundtrack so I don't know it that much) |
