In effort to make the station more family friendly I am going to 1. re-rip the music to Lossless (better source quality) then 2. edit out any offensive language.

The only one I can think of now is Fight Club. Please note any songs in this thread that have offensive language.

Thanks!

I don't have any particular track in mind, but I did want to thank you for doing this JERIC! There are many a Saturday that I will turn on SST and just listen to it all day. I will be nice to not have to run to the PC to turn the sound down on certain tracks. Kudos to you and the SST staff! Very Happy

???

What bad lyrics are there in this song?

I remember them saying "Krup you!" at the end of the song but I can't remember anything worse than that.

To answer your question: damn.
And the ending words are "Krup you".

Please don't get me wrong. I am no prude and I don't believe in heavyhanded censorship. West Side Story is my favorite musical film of all time! I know it by heart.

"Officer Krupke" has ingenious lyrics! But it is not a song that I'd want, let's say, someone like Asriana's little Sydney to listen to. I can just hear her asking, "Mommy, what's a junkie, drunk, punk, marijuana, bastard, S.O.B, and social disease?" Not that she should be sheltered, but there will be a time for that later down the road.

That said, I would hate to see it pulled from the library.

ST Lyrics is a fairly comprehensive source of movie music lyrics.
It's a good place to double-check, and also to find out exactly where in the song the word(s) occurs.

Halloween- 'See anything you like'

If I remember right, there are some moaning sounds in this one Rolling Eyes
If you check the IMDB entry for memorable quotes you'll know what the scene was!

With over 700+ listeners at times, it would be a shame to delete this song just on the slight chance that maybe 1 or 2 small children might be listening and/or even paying attention.

An almost imperceptible blank spot where the word "damn" occurs, would be the way to go, imho.

Personally, I'm not so keen on the idea of editing out the bad words since that's not how the artists intended us to hear the songs unless you've run into some regulatory issues requiring it.

If there's only a few songs with bad language, perhaps you can just put a warning on the songs to only play them after 10 pm Pacific standard time. Maybe you could also check if there's non-explicit lyrics versions of those albums first. At least that way the artists and producers supervised the bleeping or rewrote the lyrics themselves.

If people here would rather hear the songs during the daytime with the blank spots, then they should say so.

I totally understand what you're saying, and I thought of that before I posted. But we hear those little "bleep" sounds or skips all the time on radio & TV. It's a very common practice on mainstream and family-oriented stations.

The problem with playing the R and X-rated tracks late at night are 1) it's hard to implement on SAM, and 2) it's daytime somewhere for other SST listeners.

LOL - I doubt Jeric intended this to turn into a debate about censorship. All he asked for is a list of songs.

"The Jet Song" - West Side Story

JERIC -

I appreciate what you're doing.

The spoken part at the end of the main theme in "Memento" has the f-bomb.

There are several words repeated in "We Got the Gun" on the PI soundtrack.

Actually, would it hurt to even just edit out the spoken portions preceding and/or following tracks in PI and Memento? The David Julyan tracks in Memento are beautifully melancholy, but the narration lifted from the movie and tacked on wrecks them for me.
