|
Could I get some hard numbers as to what it takes to get a 128k stream up and running?
How many users will be accessing the stream?
On average, how long do users listen to a stream?
How much does a GB of traffic cost?
I scratched out some rough calculations based on bandwidth estimates from 1and1.com
1 user * 128k * 60 sec * 60 min = 460 MB/hour
$.99 for 2 hours of listening for a single user.
That means if I want to listen to a 128k stream 8 hours a day for a month, I would need to donate $120/month??? How far off am I?

I estimate we would have 200-500 at all times.
On average, how long do users listen to a stream?
1 Hour on Live365
How much does a GB of traffic cost?
I do not pay for bandwidth used. I pay for the capacity of listeners at a given bitrate.
1 Listener costs $3.00 per month at 128k.
200 Listener Capacity @ 128k = $600/mo. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Oh, wow. I was *way* off. That looks more doable.
Great site. Thanks for taking the time to run it!

That brings up another interesting question. What about royalties. People donate their CD's yet do you still have to pay royalties? What does that cost? _________________ -Wookie

Yes we have to pay royalties on non-Live365 streams regardless of the source of the CD. Why do you want to know? _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

odd... so does that mean if I listen to this website via real radio, you have to pay royalties. But if I listen it thru live365, it helps save you money? |

No we have to pay regardless of whether you're listening or not. |

You can quote me if I'm wrong JERIC, Live365 pay a special royalty for you which they cover within the monthly subscription.
I think after the recent changes they increased the subscriptions by $5 to cover new royalties.
Then again I could be wrong

Jonathan, yes. You'll note that that is why Jeric says we pay Royalties ourselves on all "Non-Live365" Streams. |

$5/month if you pay monthly, $3.65/month if you pay annually. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus
