I know I'm going ot take some flak for this (pun intended), but I don'( store my CDs. I rip them, then either give them away to the handful of my friends who still actually use CDs, or throw them away. I just don't see the value in keeping hundreds of shiny plastic discs with tiny cover art.
Once ripped, I store uncompressed master copies of each one on multiple redundant systems.
My vinyl collection (5 000+ 12" from my DJ days), on the other hand, is stored in classic DJ manner: original Ikea Expedit book cases, stored in a temperature and humidity controlled room. |

Why would you throw them away, though? Please give them to a thrift store instead. The ones in my vicinity have very little offer of soundtracks.
PS: Besides that what you're doing is illegal, but you probably know that. |

| One way to keep them clean is to invest in some nice, enclosed shelves or cabinets with glass doors. |
