Haven't posted here for ages. Hope I get it right Razz

Don't know if this has been done already so sorry if it has.

What non-soundtrack albums do you think would make good soundtrack albums? Or maybe part of? I'm not really thinking classical music - more rock/pop/jazz/R&B/electronica etc.

I've listened to Hesitation Marks by Nine Inch Nails a lot over the last couple of years and I think some parts of the album would be great for film.

A BBC programme called Top Gear (you may have heard of it!) has also used the opening of several Kings of Leon tracks from Only By Night which I think sounded brilliant in that too.

Any thoughts?

Mmmmh... hard to say.

I enjoy the occasional non-score pop-jazz-metal-whatever song in my movies, but I can't say that I've ever listened to a non-soundtrack and thought "Wow, this entire album would work great as a movie score!"

The closest that I can think of are some of the soundtracks for Quentin Tarantino's movies... carefully curated non-score tracks that fit the movie.
But even Tarantino never grabbed a random album of anything from the shelf and said "This now is the movie's soundtrack!" Very Happy

Maybe some JM Jarre albums? For example Equinox lends itself perfectly for images...

According to Google, the best selling 90s movie soundtrack, which also happens to be the best selling movie soundtrack of all time, is The Bodyguard, an very mediocre movie, but starting Whitney Houston in her prime, before the drugs and other abuse took its toll on her.

Interesting thought. For me a lot of classical "sound pictures" could be soundtracks, but the first one that springs to mind is "The Planets" by Holst.

Of course "Mars Bringer of War" has pretty much already been used in "Gladiator" but the other planets are also worthy soundtrack movie IMO.
