About the rules of play and disallowed movies & links:
Our game asks that you link TWO MOVIES (& not actors) in just THREE MOVES or better (not SIX). Our game offers the player more of a challenge than say SIX DEGREES, but our game is also not too difficult that it risks putting off the player from participating. I would like to think that the rules of play exist to keep the majority of players playing.
We hardcore players might even appreciate added difficulty by perhaps allowing movies that are not in the English language, but we are the minority. Whereas the majority, especially the kids, are more likely to be put off playing the game in the absence of a George Clooney, Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie movie, if you follow.
This game does require some restrictions -- believe me. Without restrictions, the game becomes either too easy or too difficult -- or even too silly. Why not allow more links (for example: allow all movies, or allow behind the camera links, or link movies via the critics, film magazine editors and the next door neighbour who just watched the latest Kevin Bacon release)? Without certain restrictions, the game risks becoming pointless and/or it risks loosing its credibility.
There is also the issue of WINNERS actually checking to see that there is a 3 MOVE OR BETTER solution to their two choices for the following game. Time is against the player. The Winner is the player to post their correct solution first. Having plotted a winning solution, can we be sure that the Winner has researched beforehand their two choices for the next game -- which must be included with the winning solution at time of posting? I doubt that most Winners even give much thought to their two choices, so in keeping their choices “fairly mainstream” & disallowing certain movies and links helps to minimise the chance that a 3 MOVE OR BETTER solution is not possible. |
