I had a good chance to win the prize (or was I excluded from the contest?) but Sirius beat me to it!
Congrats Sirius! _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I was in the fortunate situation to have some talk with Jan about SST co-operating with Transatlantyk, the festival in Poznan.
A friendly man with a big heart for soundtracks. _________________

Today the 3rd edition of Transatlantyk Festival in Poland has started. I could not afford to go there but got a nice surprise (thank you for heads up, Tonks!). One of the channels of Polish National TV (TVP Kultura) provided live broadcast of the opening gala of 2013 Transatlantyk Festival! The concert was also broadcast over the internet (at http://www.ninateka.pl) and internet coverage was even more than 30 minutes longer.
The concert included some talk and some video footage of Transatlantyk on a big screen behind the orchestra but mainly it was a nice music with Kaczmarek himself as a host. One of guest stars of the evening was Leszek Mozdzer who played a piano improvisation of Kacz's pieces from "Unfaithful" and "Finding Neverland". We've also heard some tracks from fresh Anna Karenina (TV mini-series) soundtrack. My first impression of Anna Karenina music was it sounded a bit like interesting combination of Kaczmarek and Abel Korzeniowski styles. Looks like very solid, nice score.
For one of the pieces of music Jan AP Kaczmarek even took over the baton himself It was the first time I've seen him conducting.
If you would like to find out more about Transatlantyk Festival you can visit official site of the event: http://www.transatlantyk.org/en/
Good news is also that Closing Gala of the Festival on August the 8th 2013 will also be broadcast over the internet at http://www.ninateka.pl
Broadcast time is being planned from 7:30 to 9:30 pm CET.
At Closing Gala we will see the winners of Festival Prizes (including young film composers, winners of the Transatlantyk Film Music Competition plus the performance of the first place winner's music. We will also meet young pianists, winners of the Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest. The best film, in the opinion of the festival audience, will be awarded the Transatlantyk Audience Award 2013.
Concert part of the evening will be filled by Leszek Możdżer’s piano improvisations; he will be accompanied by L'Autunno Orchestra under the direction of Adam Banaszak.
BTW: For anyone who would like to take a trip back in time the video coverage of Opening Gala of Transatlantyk from 2012 is also available online: http://ninateka.pl/film/transatlantyk-2012-gala-otwarcia
I haven't seen it yet but if you can survive some fragments of Polish talking you will probably hear some nice music too. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Today I paid my first visit to ninateka.pl so everything is new for me there but since 2012 Gala is available (and it's for free) my guess is that 2013 Gala should be soon available too.
Looks like we found last year's concert at the same time, Ola!
I edited my post above to add the link to that 2012 concert for all those interested. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Bad news. Jan Kaczmarek has been very ill.
He has Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
If you are interested you can support him by donating to a fundraiser started by Kaczmarek's daughter

Very sad, I was just listening to his music the other day (found an old iPod lol), he has created such beautiful music! I hope they can do something to comfort/help him. Amazing to see several composers who have made donations as well, Zanelli and Korzeniowski from just a quick look. Thanks for posting this molossus. _________________ "My Logic is Undeniable" - I, Robot |
