No thread so had to start one due to this awesome interview i found on GateWorld! Joel has done all the music for all three Stargate TV series, Stargate Universe is the latest in this franchise and tonight watching the newest episode i was amazed with the music i was hearing. So i found this great interview done with Joel about his work on SGU mainly, but also talks a bit about the other two Stargate shows!

I've been waiting for Helen Of Troy to be releases since the day it aired on the USA channel. It was due to come out last year but all I keep hearing is it's coming soon.
I'm subscribed to his newsletter and keep up on the freeclyde website but there have been no reasons why it has been delayed for this long. If anyone knows anything about the release, let us know here and I will do the same. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Thanks for the interview links, Jaded!
imho the opening theme to new Stargate Universe is not as memorable (or goosebump-causing) as the theme for Stargate Atlantis, but it's still unmistakably Joel Goldsmith. His music really adds a lot to the series. |

Joel Goldsmith passed away at age 54 yesterday.
I will best remember him for his music for Stargate.

Joel Goldsmith, composer of all three Stargate television series (334 episodes) and two DVD movies, passed away on April 29. He was 54.
“I’m utterly heartbroken at the loss of my dear friend and mentor Joel Goldsmith,” said fellow composer and frequent Stargate collaborator Neal Acree. “He was like a second father to me and I feel like I owe much of my career to the opportunities he gave me including my first feature film and first experience scoring television. His influence on my life, both personally and musically, will stay with me always.”
Joel was the son of famed composer Jerry Goldsmith, who passed away in 2004. The two collaborated to create the score for Star Trek: First Contact in 1996.
In 1997 Joel adapted David Arnold’s Stargate theme from the original feature film into the opening title sequence for Stargate SG-1. The composer also created the Emmy-nominated theme to Stargate Atlantis. He was nominated for two other Emmy Awards, including his music for the SG-1 Season One episode “The Nox” and the Atlantis Season Two episode “Grace Under Pressure.”
The cause of death has not been released. |

WTF!!! Oh sh*t, I'm totally shocked as well.
54 years is definetely no age to pass away.
May he rest in peace, all my sympathies to his family.
Now he's reunited with his father... _________________ If our music survives, which I have no doubt it will,

Apparently he died of cancer, which is I believe what his father died of as well. I'm extremely sad to hear this. Rest in Peace Joel Goldsmith. |
