It seems that the film music festival in Krakow, Poland is in jeopardy of not being held this year due to city budget problems. Krakow has been ... let's say "overinvesting" in infrastructure for many years now and the financial crisis has really put the pinch on them.
Did Mol or Dutch hear anything about this? They seem always to have better information on things. |

Dallas, we have not heard that yet. But we will contact the organizers. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Indeed, there are news that budget of KBF (Krakowskie Biuro Festiwalowe) has been heavily cut down this year (from 32 millions PLN to 18 milions PLN) but I hope that FMF will be among those festivals which will survive.
I found info from RMF that decision on which festivals will not be held this year should be made this week. So far other festivals than FMF has been mentioned as in the biggest danger by boss of KBF (she mentioned: "Sacrum Profanum", "Off Plus Camera", "Selector", "Art Boom" and "Coke Live Music Festival").
Edit: On different site (http://www.infokrakow24.pl/2012/01/04/losy-krakowskich-festiwali-przesadzone-radni-okroili-budzet-kbf-u-o-6-700-000-zl-video/) I found interview with KBF boss - Izabela Helbin. She says some events will be probably cancelled (OFF Plus Camera, Selektor Festiwal, Święto Miasta, Art Boom Festiwal, Wianki, Jarmark Świętojański, Coke Live Music Festiwal, Conrad Festiwal, Sacrum Profanum, Boska Komedia, Sylwester, UNESCO, ICORN, Literacka Małopolska, Citywriters).
At the same website there is also information that Film Music Festival will probably be limited to 3 concerts. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I am reading the article. It looks very, very grim. The Deputy Mayor lays out the priority festivals in three tiers: the first are those that are the most important (they bring in money, good for the image of the city, etc.) and these will happen. The second tier are those that "we will do everything in our power to see happen". And the third tier are those that will not happen or very likely will not happen.
The film music festival is in the third tier. In fact, the Deputy Mayor states that she is 95% sure that the film music festival will not happen. [my comment: Or at least the city will not finance it, but the main organiser RMF radio does not give any money for the organization, apparently]. Apparently, the FMF is the only festival that the city finances without any external aid. So, it seems its priority is among the very lowest for the city ....
So... that stinks!

It is good, you could not hear me when I read that article translated and the confirmation by DallasTreado who made a better translation.... _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Bad news I was wondering indeed about the lack of news on FMF 2012...
Sigh, I KNEW I had to come last year! Let's hope it will manage to survive, in some way... |

I think some at SST know people in the FMF organization and could talk to them? Basically: how much money do they need above and beyond the (admittedly small) amount from ticket sales?
The articles I saw do not mention the amounts. The trouble is the financing would have to be secured very soon so that they can invite the foreign guests to come. Or at least they could do an "all Polish composer" FMF this year (they would have to be cheaper than bringing in musicians from all over the world) to at least keep the thing going.
So, we can set up a movement to save the festival, but first we should find out how much they think they need. I can try to call them, but if we wanted to do this through SST, I want to first ask if Sirius or others dont have connections there already. |

I was silent, because I lived in the conviction that such a cool festival FMF threatens nothing. I find out that the opposite is true.
I can not express how sad it is and how I would like to say what Cal said.
Siri have a great idea. I wonder just how far gone decisions.
I think I could persuade RMF Classic on financial and organizational cooperation, after being informed of the budget for the FMF.
Because as to whether they should be interested in organizing this project - I have no doubt ...
Of course - as you think... _________________ Human beings are divided into mind and body. The mind embraces all the nobler aspirations, like poetry and philosophy, but the body has all the fun - Woody Allen |

FMF got some co-financing from the EU in 2009 and 2011. They submitted an application for 2012, but they do not have a decision yet. |

Somehow I think it will still happen.... this is based on no data whatsoever, just a brazenly optimistic view that it will all work out... |
