A nice interview with Jan that talks a little bit about all his works up to Finding Neverland, a nice, if but brief, look at this wonderful composer.

I just found out that Jan Kaczmarek is a creator of an instrument.
The instrument has been named "niewkacz" ("kacz" part comes from Kaczmarek's name and "niew" part has been taken from the name of Polish luthiers - Stefan Niewczyk and Jakub Niewczyk - who helped to build the instrument based on Kaczmarek's idea).
I had no luck to find a picture of niewkacz but I learned that the instrument has been inspired by fidola. And here is a picture of J.A.P. Kaczmarek playing the fidola (the one he uses is already a bit re-constructed by Kaczmarek, because - from what I've heard from Kaczmarek himself on the radio in Poland - the original fidola had some kind of keyboard attached):

Jan A.P. Kaczmarek is the founder and artistic director of Transatlantyk - Poznań International Film and Music Festival.
First edition of the festival will take place in Poznań (Poland) from 5th to 13th of August 2011.
It's gonna be nearly 300 films shown during the festival plus there will be concerts, workshops, discussion panels.
There will be a contest for young composers too.

Interesting news. Thanks Ola!
I'll try to go there (if I can get the invitation). _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Once more, thanks Ola!
I've been there tonight and enjoyed it!
It was an interesting experience just to visit Polish Radio 3 headquarters in Warsaw and their nice Agnieszka Osiecka Studio where this event took place. That public radio is a nearly legendary radiostation for many in Poland (especially for those who listened to it and the music being played there in the 80s).
What was even more interesting - this was my first chance to meet Jan A.P. Kaczmarek!
So big thanks not only for Ola but also for organizers. It was very nice to see Jan A.P. Kaczmarek as a guest of radio broadcast recorded with live audience.
Polish Radio 3 logo:
Maestro was answering a lot of questions, sharing some interesting thoughts, views and infos about his career, his work, about film music buisness, Transatlantyk Festival in Poznan and Rozbitek Institute for young artists he created near Poznan, about Poland, about USA, about life etc. There were questions from the audience too.
For example, before tonight I didn't know that Jan Kaczmarek likes the styles of Tron:Legacy and Social Network scores and he thinks he would be able to compose this kind of the music himself.
There were also some music pleasures - we have listened to Polish pianist Andrzej Jagodzinski performing live.
I don't want to write too much about Kacz's answers at the moment because the programme was not broadcast yet (it will be on air in 10 days - look at Ola's post above).
Here are some pictures from this very nice evening:
After radio recording was completed Jan A.P. Kaczmarek was very kind to stay with us for some time to sign autographs, have couple of pictures with fans, to chat a bit. So I managed to get one more picture
It was a pleasure. And this year brought me more meetings with great artists than I could have expected. If we add plenty of fantastic SSTers I met in 2011 too - this year really stands out for me in a very positive way.
BTW: Living in a capital city sometimes brings some nice advantages... _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

mol Nice to see you had a great time. The pictures are nice too, although the will not show until you have opened the photo link in another tab of the browser to load it in the cache.
Somehow the picture in your dropbox will not load into the post.
I am also wondering did he asked about your SST shirt? _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Thanks Sirius! Now - using PC at my office - I also see this problem.
I'll try to correct it later today. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

OK. I hope pictures are visible directly in my post above now (I also resized them 'cause they were much too big in original size).
And Sirius, no, Jan Kaczmarek didn't ask me about my shirt. I don't think there was time for it. I just managed to ask him a little question about possibilities of Kacz joining forces with Leszek Mozdzer again (answer was affirmative!), get permission for a photo together and ask some kind guy to shoot a picture. There were still people waiting behind me so I didn't want to be selfish too much
BTW: You can use those pictures on Facebook if you want, Siri. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I'm one of the shadows you can see from time to time at the bottom of the picture (look for a wider shot of both Jan Kaczmarek and a host at the table). _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

There is only one picture where you really can see the audience (number 15) and there you can see him very good
