Nobuo Uematsu - Black Mages, The: Battle Music Of Final Fantasy
A must-have for any Final Fantasy fan.
By: SweetMadness
Date: 3 Oct 2010
Rating:

Many of these tracks are terrific in their own right, but when given a thorough rocking-out by the original composer, Nobuo Uematsu, and his Black Mages, they become something exceptional. Great instrumentation on all parts, from the guitar, to drums, synthesizers and rock organs, and even some tasty bass lines to top it all off. All the battle themes are instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with the games, but still feel fresh in their arrangement.

Special mention has to go to "Dancing Mad", a twelve-minute long opus that is a fitting remix of the original final boss theme from Final Fantasy VI. That track alone makes this entire album worth buying. Other highlights include "Those Who Fight Further" and "JENOVA" from FFVII, as well as the perennial favorite "Battle On The Big Bridge" from FFV.

In short, if you're a fan of the Final Fantasy series, or just epic rocking in general, this album is a necessity for your collection.

Murray Gold - Doctor Who: Series 4
A Perfect Fit
By: archaeo_girl
Date: 30 Sep 2010
Rating:

While not an ardent fan of Series 3, the storylines of Series 4, along with the always superlative music by Murray Gold really made each episode entrancing. "The Greatest Story Never Told", basically the ongoing theme for the series, is evocative as well as enjoyable, not always synonymous in British TV sountracks. "Song of Freedom" was a definite departure from traditional Who melodies, but really works with the changes the show has undergone since its reconception. My personal favourite is "A Pressing Need to Save the World", mainly because it not only perfectly suits the action, but evokes both musically and in title the driving focus of the show.

Jack Wall - Mass Effect 2
Great Music For A Great Game
By: fenrir616
Date: 29 Sep 2010
Rating:

One of the best x box 360 titles, this epic space opera is the second part of the Mass Effect trilogy.

This is a character driven game, and of course every single member of the team has it´s own powerfull music theme, that is perfect to the traits of the specific character.

Every great story has to come accompanied with a great soundtrack in order to transmit the desired emotions and to build the tension required in the game climatic moments.

This soundtrack is a great standalone experience and to every single fan of this game that wishes to have a piece of the mass effect universe on his music library is a must have !

Murray Gold - Doctor Who
Fantastic!!
By: Doctor_Who
Date: 7 Sep 2010
Rating:

In 2005 Russell T Davis brought Doctor Who back to our televisions. However he brought about a number of changes to making it appeal to 21st century audiences. One of the things he decided (along with his team) was to hire Murray Gold and give him a larger choice of instruments and sounds to use. This allowed him to help Doctor Who come alive again with a magnificent musical score.

Two Steps From Hell - Invincible (2010)
A fantastic album
By: Doctor_Who
Date: 5 Sep 2010
Rating:

For a number of years Two Steps From Hell have been writing fantastic music for mainly film trailers - although some of their music has been used for tv trailers such as the 3D Doctor Who series 5 trailer. However as with other trailer music companies, they have not previously released their music in an album. But as fans of the music increased while releasing their music on websites such as youtube, they decided they might as well release an album of their best music which is available to buy on Amazon.

The music is simply fantastic and keeps your adrenaline pumping. What a wonderful album. Thank you 'Two Steps From Hell'!

Hans Zimmer - Inception
Amazing
By: Arbram
Date: 28 Aug 2010
Rating:

Zimmer, as usual, created an absolutely amazing album which shows his genius, music fits in with the film perfectly and I find the music good enough to listen to on its own. My favourite tracks are 'Dream is Collapsing' and 'Dream Within a Dream' as the music is fast and action packed, if you loved the 'Dark Knight' soundtrack then you will love the soundtrack to 'Inception'.
Hope this review is helpful :)

George Fenton - Dangerous Beauty
Lush, romantic score that tells the story
By: LadyInque
Date: 13 Aug 2010
Rating:

Dangerous Beauty is one of my favorite movies, and I’ve always loved the score album for presenting the cues in order. Perhaps that’s a bit silly, but it does mean that I can play the score from beginning to end and hear the story through the speakers. Of course, you’re not going to get that experience here at SST, listening to one track at a time in the queue, but that’s okay. Many of the tracks tell their own stories.

For this tale of a famous poet-courtesan in 15th-century Venice, George Fenton writes a romantic score which imitates, but never tries to duplicate, the sounds of the period. (This is fair enough, considering the film is inspired by the life of historical figure Veronica Franco but takes many liberties with the history.) We are first introduced to Veronica in “Venice, Proud and Pretty.” We watch her fall in love and have her heart broken in “The First Kiss” and “I Cannot Marry You.” Her rise to fame, her trial before the Inquisition, and her eventual bittersweet triumph all play out in the music.

Much of the music is light and airy, like sunshine in Venice, though the movie is called Dangerous Beauty, and danger does indeed lurk around the corners. I highly recommend “Second Poetry Duel.” The track begins as Veronica entertains her fans with her poetry. She accepts a challenge from one of them, but the duel turns violent and even though she wins, the victory does not represent a happy ending.

Request: “Job Training / The Library” “Second Poetry Duel” “Verdict / End Titles” are some of my favorites, but I honestly don’t think there are any bad tracks on this album. Try them all out!
