First time I watched the film, I thought the soundtrack was okay but nothing special although I appreciated the visuals of the big showstopping numbers and Hugh Jackman dancing on the bar in "The Other Side". But the more I heard the songs after that, the more I started to like them and appreciate the intricacies of the words and different parts entwining together. And when I re-watched the film on a plane, I found I was waiting for the songs and not as interested in the story.
Now it is one of my favorite albums, and maybe my favorite soundtrack of any musical.
"This is Me" and "Greatest Show" are the big numbers that were most popular, but I find "From Now On", "Come Alive" and the aforementioned "The Other Side" are as impressive and I am still pleasantly surprised by "Never Enough" and "A Million Dreams". Which leaves "Tightrope" and "Rewrite the Stars" as the lesser tracks on the album. I don't think this is down to the performers they just seem a little less impassioned or unique and more just respectable pop songs.
